How to Keep GOOD Clients: Fire All the BAD Ones
3 Tips to consistently being retained as an expert witness ... without being 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 to a lawyer:
Tip #1 - 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀
• Unpaid invoices are frustrating
• Last-minute tasks are infuriating
• Failure to communicate is maddening
Don't settle. Thank them for the experience.
And avoid working with them again.
Tip #2 - 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆
• An expert isn't always needed
• An expert might not be wanted
• An expert may come off as naggy
But when a specific expert is needed ... it goes quick
The occasional check-in isn't obnoxious ... do it.
Tip #3 - 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆
• Reply to that email
• Schedule that Zoom
• Return that phone call
Failure to be responsive is a dealbreaker.
Don't be the holdup, or they'll move to the next expert
