Look for the Room Air General in Anesthesia Litigation

Across 112 case retentions, my most common topic of malpractice litigation is: "𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙤𝙤𝙢 𝘼𝙞𝙧 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡"

...

What is a "𝙍𝙤𝙤𝙢 𝘼𝙞𝙧 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡"❓

It's when someone promises one level of sedation

But then a much deeper level is actually implemented

In medicine, these are all used interchangeably:

• Moderate Sedation
• Conscious Sedation
• Twilight Anesthesia

Yet when I review cases with bad outcomes

A 𝙉𝙊𝙉-general anesthetic is promised

Then a general anesthetic is given

𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩'𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙣

Pay close attention to:

1) The intended depth of anesthesia

2) The actual provided depth of anesthesia

𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙬𝙤 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙉𝙊𝙏 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙢𝙚

𝙃𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙝 𝙤𝙛 𝙖𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙖 𝙞𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬𝙨?
